Kolhapur has been under the dominance of various rulers. Different rules have left many influences at Kolhapur. In this city you will find fantastic temples built by the Satavana kings that ruled this place. During the rule of the Maratha, the city became a cultural hub as the king patronized theater, music, painting, sculpture, craft and wrestling. Archaeological excavations revealed that there was a city in this location that dated back to the Roman times.

KolhapurToday the city of Kolhapur combines its artistic past and industrial present to become one of the fascinating cities of Maharashtra. Kolhapur is accessible very easily by air. The nearest airport is Ujalaiwadi Airport which is just 10 km from Kolhapur. Flights from Mumbai takes just about an hour. If you want to travel by rail, the journey is going to take not more than 10 to 11 hours. There are trains that start from Mumbai and pass through Kolhapur. The distance between Mumbai and Kolhapur by road is 395 km. You can rent a car or travel by bus.
