The serenity of the dense forest camouflage a past that was trouble torn and bloody. The area now falls under the Melghat Tiger Project. The place has been referred to not only in history but also in ancient epics.
This powerful fort was built by Gavils. It was, however, later occupied by the mighty Gonds. During the later period, the fort fell to the all - conquering army of the Mughals. Today the fort is in ruins. Except for the walls and the rampart, nothing remains that remind us of the dramatic battles that the fort had been a witness to.
The best time to visit this fort is between October and June. Accessibility is never a problem. The nearest rail head is at Badnera that is 110 km from Chikhaldhara. From Mumbai, the distance is 763 km by road. Hotels are available and you can really enjoy your stay here.
