The fort at Daulatabad is one of the most imposing structure that you will find in this part of the country. The beauty of the fort lies in its abruptness. A casual tourist will find this fort a completely out of the place structure that abruptly rises from a plain land. The fort has a height of more than 600 ft. The place, once known as Devagiri, was later renamed by one of the kings of the Sultanate dynasty. The city was named Daulatabad by the then Sultan of Delhi, Mohammed - bin - Tughlak.
The fort of Daulatabad is arguably the world's best preserved forts of medieval times. Even to this day, in spite of the ravages that it was subjected to, the fort still stands virtually unaltered. The fort is still a mystery to many who visit it. There are hundreds of secret passages that will confound you even today. The fortress was built to be impregnable. It has three massive walls to defend it against enemy attack. The fort was conquered but it was done through treachery.
Daulatabad fort has some pretty impressive structures. The Chand Minar, Jami Masjid and Royal Palace are worth a visit. The palace also has a few spacious halls, courtyards and pavilions. Among the few remarkable relics of history, this is surely one of them.
Aurangabad has an airport and there are flights connecting it with Mumbai. The city is also connected by rail and two express trains, The Tapovan Express and Devgiri Express connect the city with Mumbai. There are also a number of buses that ply from Mumbai. You can however rent a car from Mumbai. Accommodation too is never a problem and you can always get hotel rooms here.
