Built during the British rule, the monument is a specimen of Indo-Sarcenic school of architecture. It was built to commemorate the visit of the then British monarch King George V and Queen Mary. Designed by British architect George Wittet, this wonderful gateway was constructed at a cost of Rs 21 lakhs. The archway, 26 m high is joined by four turrets and complex lattice work carved on stone.
