The Chikhaldhara Hills has a history of its own and this history can be traced back to the time of the epic Mahabharata where Bheema famously killed the demon Keechaka and threw the devil in the valley. The corruption of the term has led to the present name of the place. In the Vidarbha region this is the only hill station.
Chikhaldhara is at an altitude of 1118 m. The place is exceptionally beautiful and is the only coffee growing area in the world. For animal lovers the place has a special importance because it is rich in wild life. Here you will find panthers, sloth bear, wild boar, sambar and even some rare wild dog.
Some of the places that people definitely visit when at Chikhaldhara are Hurricane Point, Prospect Point, Devi Point, etc. Among other places of interest in the region are Narnala Fort, Pandit Nehru Botanical Garden, Tribal Museum and Semadoh Lake.
The best time to visit Chikhaldhara is between October and June. Chikhaldhara is 763 km away from Mumbai. The place is well connected by a network of roadways. The nearest railhead from Chikhaldhara is at Badnera which is about 110 km away from the hill station. Availability to hotels too should not be a big problem.
